India - Landslides have killed over 30 people after heavy rain and flooding in Indian-administered Kashmir.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, near the Vaishno Devi shrine, on a popular Hindu pilgrimage route in the Katra area.

As reported by Al Jazeera, search and rescue operations have responded to the landslide incident.
The senior superintendent of Police Paramvir Singh confirmed that at least 30 people died in the landslide.
“Security forces, disaster relief teams, and local volunteers have been pressed into service to clear debris and search for survivors.”
The landslide was the latest disaster caused by heavy monsoon rains in the Himalayan region.
It was gathered that the pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi Temple has shut down in the wake of the disaster.
Heavy rains have swept away bridges, roads, and flooded homes in the region, following India to open the gates of large dams on the swollen rivers in its territory.
According to Reuters, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that more rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected for the mountainous region of Ladakh.
The IMD also forecast heavy rain for Himachal Pradesh and the federal territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Following Tuesday’s disaster, the government ordered that schools be shut in many parts of Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab in India's north.

Flood: 29 killed, 321,000 houses, 858,000 farmlands destroyed
Recall that no fewer than 29 people died and thousands of houses and farmlands destroyed as flooding hit 16 communities in Kebbi state.
Governor Nasir Idris raised the alarm on Friday and appealed to President Tinubu to come to their aid while noting that the development could lead to a shortage of food.
The state Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, confirmed the development in a statement issued to the press and shared further details.

Flood kills 7, over 4,500 households affected
In a similar story by Legit.ng, a flash flood in Yobe state displaced over 4,500 households and claimed at least seven lives, prompting swift emergency intervention.
SEMA activated critical relief measures, including shelter, medical aid, and food support, across the hardest-hit communities in Potiskum and Nangere LGAs.
Authorities had begun working to halt construction along waterways and strengthen flood monitoring systems to prevent future disasters.
