Peter Ayodele Fayose was born on 15 November 1960 in Nigeria. He attended Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo State and later pursued a Higher National Diploma in Biological Sciences/Applied Medical Biology at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, graduating in 1987. During his National Youth Service Corps program, he worked with Pepsi Nigeria Limited in Ibadan, focusing on the installation and maintenance of medical and laboratory equipment.

Political career

Fayose's political journey began with his election as the governor of Ekiti state on 29 May 2003, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He defeated the incumbent, Niyi Adebayo, in the gubernatorial elections.

However, his first tenure was cut short when he was impeached on 16 October 2006 over allegations of mismanagement of public funds.

In a political comeback, Fayose was re-elected as the governor of Ekiti state in the 2014 gubernatorial election, defeating incumbent Kayode Fayemi. He was inaugurated on 16 October 2014.

Fayose declared his intention to run for the Nigerian presidency in the 2019 general elections. However, his party, the PDP, advised against his ambition, leading him to eventually drop out of the race.

Personal life

Fayose is married to Feyisetan Fayose, a Nigerian philanthropist and human rights activist. She served as the First Lady of Ekiti state during his tenure and has been active in advocating against child marriage and promoting human rights.
