Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Turkish giants Fenerbahce after just six matches into the 2024/25 season.
The Portuguese manager, who was appointed in May 2024 on a two-year deal, was fired following Fenerbahce’s 1-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League qualifiers.

That loss not only ended Fenerbahce’s hopes of reaching the group stage of Europe’s top club competition but also signalled the final straw for the board.
In a statement released via Fenerbahce’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, Fenerbahce confirmed the mutual parting:
"Our Professional Football team has parted ways with Jose Mourinho, who has been serving as head coach since the 2024-2025 season. We thank him for his efforts for our team thus far and wish him success in his future career."
Mourinho’s reign at Fenerbahce was marred by tension with the club hierarchy as the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss openly criticised their transfer policy during the summer, per Daily Mail.
Finishing second behind arch-rivals Galatasaray in the league and failing in both domestic and European competitions, which ended the season without a trophy, also contributed to his sack.
How much will Mourinho earn after sack
According to Transfer Football, Mourinho will receive a compensation payment of €15 million following his early dismissal.

This amount adds to the running tally of payouts Mourinho has accumulated throughout his career, which now surpasses €100 million.
From Chelsea to Manchester United and now Fenerbahce, Mourinho has been highly compensated whenever he gets fired from a top club.
For Fenerbahce, however, the decision underscores the heavy costs associated with appointing high-profile managers who demand both results and control.
What next for Jose Mourinho?
Despite the short end to his stay in Turkey, Mourinho’s reputation as one of football’s most successful coaches ensures he remains in demand.
The former Champions League-winning manager with Porto and Inter Milan is already being linked with a return to the Premier League.
Clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have been mentioned as potential destinations, with West Ham United also tipped as a possibility given Graham Potter’s uncertain future.
Mourinho’s track record of lifting trophies and instilling a winning mentality continues to make him a tempting option for clubs seeking a quick turnaround.
At 62, Mourinho shows no sign of stepping away from the dugout and could be one of the new faces in England due to his vast experience in the prestigious league.
