Oliseh reveals Super Eagles match bonus
Oliseh reacted to the viral claims that his set was well paid and should be in a better place and not waiting for the government to cater for them.
“First, let me debunk one erroneous notion or illusion that people have about this our pathfinder generation, people believed that this generation earned so much money,” he said on the Global Football Insights Podcasts.
“In fact, sometimes when I hear people say ‘why should anybody cater for them, after all they earned so much when they were playing for Nigeria’, that's a lie.”
The former captain confirmed that their bonus ranged from $1,000-3,000, and sometimes they fought and protested before it was paid.

“When we played for Nigeria, our match bonuses were $1,000 and sometimes $3,000; that's what we were being paid, and that's even when they paid it,” he confirmed.
“We had to fight for it most of the time for it to be paid, sometimes we had to go on strike, refuse to play matches for it to be paid, and then they would label the team rebels, mafia and everything because you're fighting for your rights.”
According to Guardian, the Federal Government promised the triumphant 1994 set a three-bedroom flat each in Abuja for their success, but it was not fulfilled till June 2025, 31 years later.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria, which won the Women's Africa Cup of Nations recently, were awarded a $100,000 cash gift and a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja.
