Premier League Champions Prepared to Sign Ademola Lookman After Failed Move to Inter Milan

  • A top Premier League club is considering landing Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman before the close of the summer transfer window
  • Inter submitted three offers, all of which were rejected by the 2024 UEFA Europa League winners
  • After the failed transfer, clubs from England and Spain have shown interest in the prolific winger

Manchester City have turned their attention to Nigerian international Ademola Lookman after their unimpressive performance against Tottenham on Saturday, August 28.

City lost 2-0 against Europa League winners, with goals coming from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha in the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite the presence of new signings Tijjani Reijnder, Omar Marmoush, and Erling Haaland, the one-time UEFA Champions League winners failed to find the back of the net.

The relationship between the Nigerian international and the Bergamo club turned sour when former coach Gian Piero Gasparini labelled Lookman as 'one of the worst penalty-takers' after missing a spot kick against Club Brugge in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.

The 27-year-old failed to complete his move to Inter Milan as Atalanta swiftly rejected the first bid worth €40 million.

The Nerazzurri returned with an improved €45 million, including add-ons, but were turned down by the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League winners.

Following these failed deals, Lookman has been a target for some selected fans at their home ground.

The outrage has reached a point where some fans have boldly declared they would rather see Atalanta relegated to Serie B than watch Lookman don their shirt again, This Day reports.

Lookman missed La Dea's first match against Pisa, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and is likely going to miss the game against Parma on Saturday, August 30.

City to sign Lookman?

Manchester City are weighing the option of securing the services of reigning CAF Player of the Year Ademola Lookman on one condition.

According to Punch and DeadlineDayLive in a post below, the 27-year-old stands a better chance of landing at the Etihad Stadium if Brazilian star Savinho leaves the club before the end of the summer window.

Aside from Lookman, Pep Guardiola is looking at signing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and defender Marc Guehi.

“Manchester City will enter the Lookman race if Savinho departs, and Tottenham are monitoring developments due to delays in their own Savinho negotiations," according to Caught Offside.

During the early days of the transfer window, Ademola Lookman rejected offers from Premier League clubs including Arsenal, West Ham, and Liverpool.

Atletico Madrid also showed interest in the winger, but manager Diego Simeone preferred landing Juventus Star Nicolas Gonzalez ahead of the Nigerian.
