Victor Boniface will not join AC Milan after the club deemed him unfit following medical checks in Italy, so he will return to Bayer Leverkusen.

AC Milan and Leverkusen agreed on a loan deal worth €5 million, with an option to make it permanent for €24 million and also agreed on personal terms with the player.

According to Goal, Milan doctors did not sign off on the Nigerian’s medical reports, focusing on his knee, which he had suffered two ACL injuries.

As noted by Transfermarkt, Boniface suffered an ACL injury in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons during his time at Bodo Glimt, and has a history of other muscular injuries.

Players who failed medicals

1. Nicolas Jackson

Villarreal and AFC Bournemouth had an agreement for the transfer of Nicolas Jackson in January 2023, but he failed medicals after the Premier League side discovered a hamstring injury, and the move collapsed.

The setback turned out great for the forward as he joined Chelsea six months later and has won the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. He is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after just two seasons.

2. Hakim Ziyech

The Moroccan forward's proposed move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr collapsed in 2023 after the club attempted to renegotiate their agreement after detecting a problem with his knee.

Ziyech refused and returned to Chelsea, after which he negotiated his exit to join Turkish Super League side Galatasaray on loan with an option to make it permanent.

3. Loic Remy

French forward Remy failed a medical at Liverpool in January 2014 after the club detected a heart condition during checks. He joined Chelsea six months later, winning the Premier League and League Cup in his first season.

4. Demba Ba

Senegalese forward Demba Ba failed medicals at German job Stuttgart and English side Stoke City in 2009 and 2011, respectively. However, despite having a long history of leg injuries, he had a decent career playing for top clubs, including Chelsea.

5. Ivan Toney

Former Brentford striker once failed a medical after Wolverhampton Wanderers detected he had scoliosis during checkups. He joined Newcastle United instead and worked his way to the pyramid of English football. He currently plays for Saudi side Al-Ahli. He was linked to top clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United, before moving to the Middle East.
