Victor Boniface has paid a special tribute to his late mother on the sixth anniversary of her demise, which happened on August 22, 2019.

As noted by Punch, the striker admitted that his mum’s demise broke him, and it was when he started consuming alcohol, something he wouldn't normally do.

He added that he drew the strength to pull through that phase of his life from his grandmother, Lucy Boniface, and his youth coach, Johnson Blessing.

Boniface dedicated tattoos to his mum

The striker has several tattoos on his body, and during the November 2024 international break in Uyo, he explained the deep meaning of some of them.

“I have a praying hand with a cross, my mum's name, and the day I lost her, which was on the 22nd of August, 2019. That's why I use the number 22, because of my mum,” he told Eagles Tracker from Super Eagles camp in Uyo.

“I have her face on my arm and my grandma,” he added, pointing to his right arm. “And something about my mum is also on my hand.”

As noted by Pulse Sports, the Super Eagles forward also confirmed he chose to wear the number 22 for club and country to honour the memories of his mother.

He recently joined Italian Serie A side AC Milan on a season-long loan with an option to make it permanent in a deal worth €30 million.

He will team up with national teammate Samuel Chukwueze at San Siro, and it is unclear whether he will stick with his number 22 under Massimiliano Allegri.
