Kanu Nwankwo Shines As Icons Reunite for Olu of Warri’s 4th Year Festivities

An array of Nigerian football legends visited the palace of His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, to celebrate his fourth year anniversary.

Several activities were lined up for the two-week-long festivities, as the events climaxed with a star-studded novelty football match in the city.

The game brought together members of Nigeria’s Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medal-winning Super Eagles team and youthful chiefs of the Warri kingdom.

The palace was a beehive of activity, and it erupted in excitement as the traditional leaders had the opportunity to play with renowned football stars.

Several Super Eagles legends, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amuneke, Mutiu Adepoju, Austin Eguavoen, Finidi George, Ifeanyi Udeze, Taribo West, and Victor Ikpeba, were spotted at the event.

According to the Daily Independent, the icons traded tackles against Chevron All-Stars and won 4-0 to the excitement of the crowd.

It was a moment that celebrated the unity, culture, and the Olu’s vision for a thriving Warri Kingdom. A palace official said:

"In the voices of these children, we hear the future of the Itsekiri Nation. Their fluency and pride ensure that the legacy of our people will not only be remembered but will continue to thrive."

After the game, former Arsenal forward Kanu Nwankwo took to his Instagram handle to post moments of the reunion with other superstars.

He added the caption:

"Honoured to celebrate with His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, on his anniversary.

His wife, Amara Kanu, replied:

"Wow. Legend King K please bring back Warri dry fish for me. I haven’t eaten since 3 days now."

Kanu Nwankwo's wife speaks on marriage

Legit.ng earlier reported that Amara Nwankwo admitted that she wasn’t fully prepared for the level of stardom that came with being married to Super Eagles legend Kanu Nwankwo.

The interior decorator said one of her jobs was to console her husband whenever he lost a match during his active days, as she narrates how her time with him taught her invaluable lessons about patience and perseverance.
