The Nigerian striker spent last season on loan at the Turkish club after failing to secure a permanent move away from Napoli in the summer of 2024.

As noted by Transfermarkt, he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists, prompting the Turkish champions to sign him permanently, which raised questions, with many claiming he deserves better.

English pundit Gary Lineker claimed that Victor Osimhen’s attitude was the major reason top European clubs did not pursue a move for him.

“I do hear on the grapevine that a reason one or two of the clubs are a little bit nervous is that he sometimes goes missing for a few days, Lineker said as quoted by United in Focus.
“So, there’s apparently some kind of slight question mark as to his character in that sense. “But whether that’s true or not, I wouldn’t confirm it. But that’s what someone that’s quite close to one or two big clubs and agents [has said].
“It does seem strange that he’s never ended up at one of the giants because talent-wise, wow.”

Despite the rumours on social media, Osimhen’s camp claimed a low salary offer from those top clubs was the reason the striker turned them down.

Osimhen sends cryptic post to Lineker

Osimhen is an avid social media user and is never scared to stylishly voice his opinions when fans peddle untrue rumours or make negative statements about him.

As spotted by Legit.ng, he shared three comic videos on his Instagram story at almost the same time Lineker’s statements emerged on social media.

The videos tell the former England player to shut up and not talk about things he knows nothing about after questioning the striker’s attitude.

One of the most high-profile controversies in Osimhen’s career was an Instagram live in June 2024, during which he attacked former Super Eagles head coach Finidi George.

The Super Eagles star responded to claims that Finidi questioned his omission from the national team despite injury, a report which turned out to be false.

A Nigerian football writer, who asked not to be named, believes the analysis around Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray is getting too much, and the player should be left alone.

“The over-analysis of Osimhen’s decision could carry another meaning at this point, and it would be good if the player is allowed to live by his decision,” he told Legit.ng.
“He negotiated a good wage package with Galatasaray, a club where he is loved and adored by the fans, so what else could he have asked for? His legacy is secured, and he would make money.”

Osimhen explained why he joined Galatasaray

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Victor Osimhen explained why he joined Galatasaray after the Turkish champions unveiled their new signing at their home stadium.

The striker noted that his daughter, Hailey, was crucial in his decision as she had fallen in love with the club and sings the club's songs and chants at home.
