Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has rewarded Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin with ₦30 million and a fully furnished apartment in Akure.

The gesture comes as recognition for her outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where the Nigerian team clinched yet another continental title.

Demehin, who plays for Fenerbahce in Turkey, was hosted at the Government House in Akure on Monday, Daily Post reports.

The Ondo state indigene featured in all six games for the Super Falcons during the tournament and even scored her first-ever goal for Nigeria in the 5-0 quarter-final victory over Zambia, cementing her place as one of the standout performers of the championship.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also extended his generosity to the team’s media officer, Mary Akinsola, and team secretary, Mary Oduboku, who are both indigenes of Ondo State.

Each received a cash reward of ₦15 million for their contribution to the team’s continental triumph.

Reward galore for Super Falcons stars

Demehin’s reward comes days after President Bola Tinubu gifted the entire Super Falcons team $100,000 each for their WAFCON 2024 victory.

Other States join in celebrating Super Falcons players

Beyond Ondo State, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma also held a grand homecoming ceremony in Owerri to honour the Super Falcons players of Imo origin, per The Nation.

During the event at the Government House Banquet Hall, he announced a ₦30 million cash gift and a plot of land in a prime Owerri location for each of the seven players and one team official from the state.

The Imo-born stars honoured include Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Tochukwu Oluchi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, and Ifeoma Onumonu.

Their dedication and resilience during the WAFCON played a significant role in Nigeria’s latest victory in women’s football.

While Demehin and some of her other teammates continue to bask in the WAFCON victory by receiving extra rewards, fans are expecting other state governors to tow the same line as the Ondo and Imo state governors.
