CHAN 2024: Bus Carrying Fans to Stadium for Opening Ceremony Engulfed in Fire

A bus carrying Tanzanian supporters to Dar es Salaam for the CHAN 2024 opening ceremony caught fire in a terrifying incident, according to reports.
It was gathered that the terrifying incident occurred in the Bushini area, Malenve Ward, Kwimba District, Mwanza region, northern Tanzania, 24 hours before the event on August 2.
Further reports claim that the vehicle, registered to the Teachers' Union in Misungwi District, was carrying 45 passengers.

The driver quickly noticed the fire and ensured all passengers evacuated safely before the flames spread.
The Mwanza Regional Police Commander, DCP Wilbrod Mutafungwa, disclosed that there were no fatalities during the incident, Tuko reports.
According to sources, the bus emitted heavy smoke before being engulfed in flames.
The CHAN 2024 tournament begins on August 2, with Tanzania facing Burkina Faso in the opening match.
Mutafungwa said, as quoted by Guardian TZ.
"No fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident. The Police Force thanks the citizens who responded swiftly and helped save lives before police and firefighters arrived."
He added that preliminary investigations showed that it was an electrical fault that caused the fire.
Nigeria wrap up CHAN preparation
Meanwhile, ahead of the start of the competition, the Super Eagles B played out a 2-2 draw against Zanzibar in their final warm-up match on Thursday, VON reports.
It followed a goalless draw between the two teams on Monday. Head coach Eric Chelle utilised the full squad in the second match, giving every available player game time to manage fitness and prevent injuries ahead of the tournament.

Anas Yusuf and Adedayo Olamilekan scored in the first half to give Nigeria a two-goal lead, but Zanzibar fought back in the second half, netting twice to share the spoils.
Despite failing to win either friendly, the technical crew used the games to analyse tactical setups and player readiness.
The squad will now turn their attention to their Group D opening match against defending champions Senegal on Monday, August 5. Midfielder Harrison Austin said:
“As a team, we always talk about the competition and about improving. The coach sees our lapses, points them out, and we make corrections.
“Even among ourselves, we hold short meetings to review how to do better. And it shows.”

Eric Chelle names 23-man squad for CHAN
Legit.ng earlier reported that Eric Chelle has included goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani, defenders Sodiq Ismaila and Stephen Mayo, midfielders Hadi Haruna and Alex Oyowah, and forwards Anas Yusuf and Ijoma Anthony in the team.
