Recall that some former members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have reaffirmed their loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

The CPC, the party of former president Muhammadu Buhari, was part of the alliance that gave birth to the APC and eventually ousted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in 2015 after its 16-year rule.

The party teamed up with the new PDP (PDP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to form the APC.

Why Buhari’s loyalists may dump APC

Legit.ng earlier reported that the passing of former president Buhari stirred fresh debate within Nigeria’s political space, reigniting speculation over whether his fiercely loyal CPC bloc would remain in the ruling All Progressives Congress or chart a new course ahead of the 2027 elections.

For years, Buhari’s personal charisma acted as the anchor that kept his political base united. Now, with the late president’s death, that anchor is gone, and party insiders suggested old rivalries and new ambitions might rise to the surface.

Signs of shifting ground emerged swiftly. Bolaji Abdullahi, interim national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), told Punch that many of Buhari’s loyalists had already joined their ranks before the former president’s death.
