  • The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which has historically dominated the state, secured only three LGAs, Port Harcourt, Obio Akpor, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni
  • RSIEC Chairman Dr Michael Odey formally announced the results, marking a significant political shift in the state’s post-1999 history

According to official results announced by Dr Michael Odey, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the APC secured wins across 20 LGAs, leaving the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with just three councils.

Historic shift in Rivers state political landscape

Political analysts have described the APC’s performance as unprecedented, noting that it is the first time in the state’s post-1999 democratic history that the party has won 21 out of 23 LGAs. The results are expected to reshape the political dynamics in Rivers State, particularly ahead of future state and national elections.

The APC’s sweeping victory has sparked reactions across party lines, with supporters hailing the outcome as a sign of growing grassroots support, while PDP loyalists have vowed to reassess their strategy moving forward.

As Rivers State absorbs the implications of the election results, observers say the shift could signal a broader realignment in the region’s political affiliations.
