"I will vote for Tinubu”: Activist Deji Adeyanju Gives Reason Amid Feud With Peter Obi
- President Bola Tinubu's votes in the 2027 election appear to be increasing, as Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist, has hinted at the possibility of him voting for the president in the next poll
- Adeyanju maintained that this would happen should the opposition coalition field Peter Obi as its 2027 presidential candidate
- This came as Obi and Adeyanju shifted their feud to the courtroom when the legal team of the former threatened to sue the latter in court over a defamation allegation
Deji Adeyanju, a popular human rights activist, has disclosed the possibility of his voting for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election should the African Democratic Party (ADC), the recently adopted political platform of the opposition coalition, field the presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, as its candidate in the poll.
The activist made the comment when asked if he was trying to discredit Peter Obi. He noted that “God forbid that I support APC. If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote for Tinubu.”

Obi, Adeyanju's feud shifted to court
Recently, the feud between Obi and Adeyanju shifted to the courtroom when the 64-year-old former Anambra governor, through his legal team, threatened to drag the activist to court over the publication of defamatory statements against him on social media and in interviews.
The activist dismissed the threat and said he was eager to face the 2023 Labour Party presidential election in court. He further accused Obi of supporting an unfriendly political culture in the country. He pointed out the behaviour of Obi's supporters on social media.
Adeyanju said:
“We cannot have a man who leads a mob that terrorises people online and cannot tolerate criticism, who calls people all sorts of names. Anybody who cannot support their candidate is seen as an enemy of Nigeria or has been paid to do so. That is not democracy.”
Peter Obi's democratic credentials are under question
The activist also questioned the democratic credentials of Obi, adding that he has not made any sacrifices as other politicians have done for democratic survival in Nigeria.
He stressed that he and many others have put their lives on the line at a great personal cost. He emphasised that the people must sanitise the polity. He added that "we cannot have a country where people who terrorise others online dictate the tone of political discourse.”
Adeyanju added that over time, he has always been standing behind anyone he considered a credible candidate in Nigeria's elections. He noted that he had "never voted for a bad candidate."

Southern politicians who may be PDP candidates
Legit.ng earlier reported that the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket in the 2027 election to the south, leading to a new political alignment and realignment in the party.
This is different from the scenario that led to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.
With the new development in the PDP, some prominent politicians have been fingered as having the chances of emerging as the party's presidential candidates in the 2027 poll.
