2027 Presidential Ticket: Gov Mohammed Mentions 2 Influential Southern Candidates PDP is Considering

FCT, Abuja - Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, for its presidential ticket.

Mohammed, who is chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, disclosed this on Thursday, August 29, when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s 'Politics Today', monitored by Legit.ng.

He said:

“But certainly, President Jonathan is one of the candidates we are thinking of, if he joins us and opens his mind to run.
“And even other people like Governor Obi, because if he decides to come to a better platform where there are no encumbrances, he will be given the opportunity too."

Legit.ng reports that while Jonathan, a PDP member, has not joined the presidential contest since he left office in May 2015, Obi is currently a member of the Labour Party (LP).

PDP zones ticket to South

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP has resolved that the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 general election will be zoned to the South.

This decision was disclosed by the party’s national spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, while reading the communique issued at the end of the NEC’s 102nd meeting held on Monday, August 25, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The communique reads:

“That having retained the position of the national chairman in the northern region of the country, the presidential candidate of the Party for the 2027 general election is hereby zoned to the southern region."

The communique added:

“All PDP national office positions currently in the northern region of the country remain in the northern region. That all PDP national office positions currently in the southern region of the country remain in the southern region.”

PDP governors dare Wike

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the PDP Governors’ Forum cautioned the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and others against interfering with the party’s national convention, scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo state.

The PDP governors reaffirmed their unwavering support for the resolutions of the 101st NEC meeting held in July 2025.
