Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has reacted to his defection rumour from the party, saying that he was not in a hurry, nor were his party leaders and supporters in a hurry.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano, made the comment while speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NNPP in Kano on Thursday, August 28, stating that he was comfortable with the party at the moment and that he has something to offer.

Kwankwaso addresses NNPP supporters
In a video shared by his media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, the leader of the Kwankwasiyyah Movement noted that "we remain comfortable and steadfast with our NNPP, and Insha Allah, together we shall continue to choose the path of what is right for our nation."
This came amid several talks that the former Kano governor was planning to dump the NNPP and move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He had reportedly held several meetings with President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria and abroad.
By counting, Kwankwaso and Tinubu have met about three times since the latter became Nigeria's president. Their first meeting was in Paris, France, shortly before Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria President.

Kwankwaso vs Ganduje: Tinubu moves to broker peace
There were reports that Tinubu was making moves to broker peace between Kwankwaso and his estranged successor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who recently resigned as the national chairman of the APC, the president's party.
Also in June 2023, Kwankwaso made a surprise visit to President Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja, shortly after his inauguration. Unlike their first meeting, the Aso-Rock visit was public, and the NNPP chieftain addressed journalists, adding that they discussed issues of national importance and did not rule out their possible collaboration.
Tinubu and Kwankwaso met for the third time at the former's official residence in Abuja. There was no official comment as the meeting was private. These happened amid alignment and realignment between Nigerian politicians ahead of the 2027 election.
Recently, Kwankwaso's strong ally, Abdumimuni Jibrin, met with Tinubu at the presidential villa on two occasions within two weeks. Speaking to journalists on his second visit, Jubrin stated that Kwankwaso would decide his political movement by himself.

Ajadi reacts to Kwankwaso planned defection rumour
Legit.ng earlier reported that Ogun NNPP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Olufemi Ajadi, reacted to the defection rumour of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party's presidential candidate in the last election.
Ajadi, in an interview with Legit.ng, explained that Kwankwaso has the right to make political decisions, but he would have to reassess the timing and reason if he were to join him.
The NNPP governorship candidate then disclosed what he would do should the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement decide to join the APC and President Bola Tinubu's camp.
