Bauchi State - Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state said he has opted out of the 2027 presidential race.

Legit.ng recalls that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced that it has decided to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern part of the country.

Governor Mohammed said he put his presidential ambition on hold in the interest of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), unity and progress of Nigeria.

The chairman of the PDP Governors Forum said his decision was inline with the party’s pronouncement to give others a fair opportunity to pursue their aspirations.

As reported by The Nation, he made this known while addressing newsmen in Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital, on Wednesday, August 28, 2025.

The governor urged other politicians to set aside personal interests in favour of collective progress.

“My ambition is not bigger than Nigeria, and certainly not bigger than the party. If I don’t become President, I have held many positions in the past, and I am grateful for that.
“I am very satisfied with the resolution. I was part and parcel of the discussions from the strategic planning to the final decisions. It was an all-inclusive process.
“Most importantly, we resolved to maintain the current zoning formula for party offices and to zone the presidential ticket to the South. This will help bring about greater unity, understanding, and stability within the party.”

According to Governor Mohammed, politics is about self-actualisation within the framework of party decisions, party manifestos, and national development.

Makinde, others to fight for 2027 presidential ticket

Legit.ng earlier reported that the battle for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in the 2027 election.

Governor Seyi Makinde and other southerners will fight it out for the 2027 presidential ticket in the PDP.

The 2023 Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former President Goodluck Jonathan are part of the new zoning arrangement.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Obidient Movement reacted to the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the south.

The Peter Obi's supporters said the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate will study the situation first before making his decision weather to return to the PDP.
