Anambra Assembly Suspends Top Lawmaker, Reason Emerges

Udemezue suspended over constituency allowance complaints
Udemezue was suspended over a message and content he shared on social media, which the House described as “damaging content”.
As reported by The Punch, the lawmaker, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had shared on his social media handles, alleging that his constituency in Anambra state, Ayamelum , is marginalised in the area of constituency allowance.
PDP lawmaker Udemezue suspended without salary
Reacting to the post, the House first passed the resolution to summon Udemezue at its plenary last Tuesday, following a matter of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Aguata 2 Constituency, Tony Muobike, and seconded by the Chief Whip and member representing Ihiala 1 Constituency, Jude Ngobili.
The Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over the plenary, referred the matter to the House Committee on Rules, Businesses, Ethics and Privileges and to report back to the House.
And at the plenary on Tuesday, (today), the House passed the resolution to suspend the lawmaker for three months without salary.

Benue Assembly suspends four lawmakers
In a similar development, Legit.ng previously reported that four lawmakers in Benue state were suspended for six months following an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker of the House of Assembly.
The suspension was triggered by a motion of urgent importance, accusing the legislators of attempting to destabilise the Assembly.
Speaker Aondona Dajoh has also appointed a new spokesperson, replacing one of the suspended members
Benue Assembly speaker resigns
Legit.ng reported that the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, resigned from his position, citing the decision as one made “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”
His resignation was confirmed in a letter dated 24 August 2025, which he personally signed and made available to Channels Television.
The announcement comes amid growing tensions within the Assembly, following the suspension of four lawmakers just days earlier.
Senate suspends Natasha for six months
Legit.ng earlier reported that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months after her outburst during a recent Senate plenary session regarding the relocation of her seat.
As part of the suspension, her salary, security details, and access to the National Assembly were revoked. Her office was locked, and her aides did not receive salaries.
The suspension followed a confrontation with Akpabio over the reassignment of her seat.
