FCT, Abuja - Ahead of the 2027 election, Paul Ibe, Atiku Abubakar’s media adviser, has said the former Vice President (VP) remains committed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition.
Ibe told The Punch in a report published on Sunday, August 24, that former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Atiku had begun the process of officially becoming a member of the ADC.

Aide sets the record straight on Atiku
Ibe said:
“Atiku is not contemplating leaving the coalition. It is propaganda for anyone to say so. The party is being organised across the country. The party is being planted in different parts of the country, and registration is ongoing.
“About His Excellency’s membership, he will do that at the right time. It’s a process that is in place. Registration is one of the steps. It’s a process, and it is ongoing.
“He remains committed to the coalition arrangement. Nigerians are behind the coalition, and all the leaders will work together to rescue Nigeria.”
Legit.ng recalls that it was a gathering of who-is-who at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2. The top shots at the coalition meeting included Atiku; Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election; Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Kaduna governor; Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers state governor; Gabriel Suswan, a former governor of Benue state; and Sule Lamido, erstwhile Jigawa governor. The politicians converged to present the ADC as the coalition’s platform.

Following the decision of Ralph Nwosu, the longtime national chairman of the ADC to step aside, Senator David Mark and ex-Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola, took over as national chairman and secretary respectively.
ADC coalition and Atiku's 'indecision'
The ADC has become a home to some disgruntled politicians whose party are hitherto engulfed in one internal crisis or the other, especially the PDP and the LP.
Although most of these political heavyweights have yet to take up formal ADC membership, it is believed that it is only a matter of time before they start picking up their membership.

ADC struggles over Atiku, Obi
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that members of the ADC national working commitee (NWC) are reportedly seriously worried that presidential hopefuls Atiku and Obi are yet to join formally register with the party.
The development was said to have become a growing concern for the ADC leadership.
