Chukwu's defection: PDP has closed shop in Abia - Otti declares

Chukwu, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he served as deputy governor under the administration of ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, revealed that his defection marks a new political chapter for him and his people.

“All Nkporo people are here today. The implication is that Nkporo is now in the Labour Party,” Chukwu declared.

Explaining his decision, he praised Governor Alex Otti’s leadership, saying, “I decided to join you because you treat governance as a personal mission.

“You have done well. Today, we can proudly say we are Abians. PDP in Abia state has closed shop as from today.”

As reported by The Punch, Governor Alex Otti, while welcoming Chukwu into the party, commended his courage and described him as a man “who will give you your due respect.”

Abia Governor Otti speaks out on dumping LP

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Alex Otti has denied reports of leaving the Labour Party to join Atiku Abubakar’s opposition coalition.

He reaffirmed his commitment to governing Abia state, stating he hasn’t attended or been invited to any coalition meetings, and remains focused on state development.

Addressing past internal disputes within the Labour Party, Otti said issues were resolved through due process and expressed confidence that any remaining concerns will be settled.

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that a former deputy governor of Ekiti state, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, resigned his membership of the PDP in the state.

Olusola-Eleka revealed this in a letter dated July 24, addressed to the Okeruku Ward 2 chairman in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area of the state.

The ex-deputy governor hinged his decision on the party’s failure to provide a platform for credible opposition and leadership in the country.

Ex-NAFDAC DG dumps PDP for ADC

In another related development, Legit.ng previously reported that former director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Botwev Orhii, dumped the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Orhii, who contested the Benue state governorship ticket of the PDP in 2019 and 2023, announced his resignation in a letter made available to the press on Wednesday, July 30.
