Ahead of the 2027 general election, some opposition leaders have come together to form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The coalition, championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the country's next general election.
Other prominent figures in the coalition include Peter Obi, the Labour Party's flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election, as well as Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, the former governors of Kaduna and Rivers state.

Although the event drew several political figures, including former governors, senators, and other ex-office holders, reports suggesting that some former governors had joined the coalition and the ADC have been refuted, as they denied any association with what has been described as the new bride in Nigerian politics.
Below are the governors who have denied having links with ADC:
Samuel Ortom
The immediate past governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, has denied the report that he was planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ADC. He clarified that he remains the leader of the opposition party in Benue.
In July, the former governor posited that politicians have the right and freedom to decide and move to any political party of their choice, but insisted that he was not leaving the party.
Kayode Fayemi
Fayemi, the immediate past governor of Ekiti, also distanced himself from the claims that he co-founded the coalition and joined the ADC along with the former governor of Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi.

Akinwunmi Ambode
Similarly, former Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, recently declared his support for the APC and President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. He said that the report that linked him to the ADC to contest the 2027 election was "false publications", which was causing him distractions.
Ambode noted that President Tinubu was an achiever and a leader who was result-oriented. He maintained that Tinubu has made significant progress in pension reforms, the student loan scheme, as well as the growth of the economy.
Wike speaks on Amaechi's fate in ADC
Legit.ng earlier reported that Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, commented on the mission of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to sack President Bola Tinubu.
Wike, in an interview on Tuesday, August 19, insisted that Nigerians would reject Amaechi in the next general election.
The FCT minister also expressed confidence that the former governor of Rivers would not get the presidential ticket of the coalition adopted party, ADC.
