Just In: Tension in Edo Polling Unit as Voters Beat PDP Agent
- A PDP agent has reportedly been beaten by voters at the Ozolua Model Primary School, Iguobazuwa East Ward, in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State
- Reports indicated that the PDP agent allegedly refused to release the Permanent Voter Cards of some electorates, which resulted in the beating and manhandling
- The intervention of the police led to the de-escalation of the matter, as he was rescued by the security operatives
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent at the Ozolua Model Primary School, Iguobazuwa East Ward, which was the headquarters of Ovia South West local government area, has been allegedly beaten and manhandled.
As of the time of writing this report, the name of the agent was yet to be ascertained, and the voters said the agent had refused to release their Permanent Voter Card.

Police save PDP agent from voters
However, The Nation reported that the PDP agent was saved by the intervention of the police. Voters reportedly turn out in large numbers at various Wards in Iguobazuwa. Voting materials were said to have arrived as early as 7 a.m.
In another report, Princess Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, the House of Representatives and PDP candidate in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election in Kaduna, has allegedly been kidnapped along with 25 supporters on the election day.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) raised the alarm while addressing journalists at a press conference in Kaduna on Saturday, August 16. The PDP chairman in the state, Edward Percy Masha, alleged that the joint security network carried out the operation.
PDP speaks on the arrest of party chieftains
He alleged that the security operatives had stormed a hotel in Malalu to arrest the PDP campaign council chairman, Hussein Ahmed-Kero, but he was nowhere to be found, and the officer then allegedly whisked away Dawaki and the 25 supporters.
The leading opposition then condemned the development, alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was responsible for the "act of harassment, intimidation, and insanity". The party then called for the immediate release of its candidate and other members arrested by the security agencies.
Masha then called for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, the Director General of the DSS, Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chief of Army Staff, while calling the arrest an “egregious abuse of power.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct by-elections into vacant positions in the national and state houses of assembly in 12 states of the country. The election, according to INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, included two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies and nine state house of assembly seats.

PDP agent arrested in Kaduna bye-election
Legit.ng earlier reported that the police, in conjunction with other security agents, have arrested a PDP agent with the cash sum of N25 million in the Kaduna bye-election.
According to the police authority, the suspect confessed that the money was meant to induce voters in the election and begged for leniency.
Kaduna is one of the 12 states in the country where bye-elections are being held on Saturday, August 16, to fill vacant positions in the National and state Houses of Assembly.
