According to the cleric, the protest may affect President Tinubu's chances of getting reelected in the 2027 poll.

He said:

“The government of Tinubu, you have not gotten the youth matter right. If you don’t do the needful, I’m seeing youth protests. Before that election, youths would protest and that can affect your reelection."

Nigeria bids to placate youth

The Tinubu government has sought more time to end hardships and both the police and army leadership have warned against the protests, saying they could get out of control.

Protesters have said they have a right to peaceful demonstrations, calling the government's warnings of violence a smokescreen for a potential crackdown.

President Tinubu, who took office in May 2023, removed fuel subsidies to cut down on government spending, in a move that led to a rise in the cost of transportation.

Tinubu said while he understands the pain caused by his reforms, they are the only way to put Nigeria on a firm path to economic growth.

Tinubu advises youths on media use

Meanwhile, President Tinubu urged Nigerian youths to take charge of the country’s digital transformation by using new media as a catalyst for national progress, unity, and economic empowerment.

The president gave the advice while addressing participants at a national summit on Digital Media and Democracy held recently in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme of the summit, “Unveiling the Central Role of New Media in National Development”, the president commended young Nigerians for their innovation and drive, describing them as active builders of the nation’s future.

Making reference to the growing influence of digital platforms, President Tinubu noted that new media had become more than just a tool, stressing that it is now central to the country’s civic life, economic advancement, and political inclusion.
