FCT, Abuja - The factional acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has alleged that the ongoing crisis in the party is rooted in a forged resignation letter, which was falsely attributed to him and circulated by individuals allegedly connected to a 2027 presidential coalition.
Speaking with Legit.ng on Sunday, August 3, Bala described the document dated 18 May 2025 as “entirely false and without merit”, blaming unnamed elements within and outside the party for spreading it.

“A fabricated letter of resignation purportedly authored by me. The timing and content of the fake resignation letter are not only misleading but also riddled with glaring contradictions that raise serious questions about its authenticity,” he said.
Bala says public resignation disproves claims
Bala insisted that during a Wednesday, July 2, 2025 event in Abuja, his predecessor, Ralph Nwosu, publicly declared that he had not resigned, an announcement that, according to him, invalidates the claims of his resignation.
“Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman,” Bala quoted Nwosu.
He also criticised the document’s formatting, noting it lacked the official ADC letterhead.
“All my official communications have been conducted on the official headed paper... In stark contrast, the fraudulent resignation letter is presented on plain paper.”
Coalition leaders accused of hijack plot

Bala raised alarm over what he described as a coordinated attempt by powerful political interests, allegedly led by former Senate President David Mark and ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai, to hijack the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This is not about internal misunderstanding. Credible intelligence confirms that a handful of monarchs have been shamelessly lobbying… to intimidate our Interim National Chairman into surrendering the party to a clique of power-hungry hijackers," he said.
Traditional rulers under fire
The ADC slammed what it called the “meddlesome behaviour” of traditional rulers allegedly involved in the scheme.
It accused them of abandoning their roles as neutral custodians of peace to serve as “errand boys” for political actors.
“Traditional rulers have no business crawling around political corridors on behalf of godfathers.
“This is not 1983. The ADC will not be used as a stepping stone for the untrustworthy 2027 ambitions of a noisy gang of privileged few," he said.
Factional ADC vows to expose collaborators
The ADC warned that those posing as peacemakers while secretly advancing the alleged coalition agenda would be named and shamed.
He reaffirmed Bala’s position, saying he enjoys overwhelming support from genuine ADC members.
“Our message to these wayward monarchs: Face your thrones, not our party. The African Democratic Congress is not for sale. We will resist every attempt to auction our party to political merchants," he said.
Peter Obi urged to leave ADC for PDP
Previously, Legit.ng reported former Minister of Information and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jerry Gana, said that Labour Party's Peter Obi would gain support from the northern region if he contests under the PDP in the 2027 presidential election.
Gana made the remarks on Prime Time aired by Arise Television on Wednesday, July 30, where he also spoke on the strength of the PDP, its founding ideals, and Nigeria’s democratic journey.
