Deeper Life Member Reacts to Pastor Kumuyi’s Modification, Addresses Church Singles: “You Choose”

A member of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Sunday Anani, has reacted to the announcement by its General Superintendent, Pastor William Kumuyi, of modifications to two of the church’s long-standing marriage rules.
The cleric made these clarifications during the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, monitored by Legit.ng on Sunday, August 31.

During his sermon, he lifted the six-month courtship rule and the courtship visits ban, adding that a lady can visit her intended husband, but must be accompanied by an elder.
Deeper Life member reacts to Kumuyi’s modification
On his Facebook page, Sunday addressed singles in the church who were pointing fingers at the marriage committee.
He said in his post:
“Those singles who are posting about the Marriage Committee here and there, I just wish you knew that that is the least of the worries you should have. Some singles lack clarity about what they even want. But they leave all that alone to focus on a section of the church that they have not even been to by themselves.
“The best experience they have is what they heard people say about the Committee. I have shared my view earlier in the day. I will re-emphasise it. Focus on yourself and what you can do. Don't point fingers.
“You have the freedom of expression but I still advise you to focus on what is under your control more than what is not in your control. Your future marriage needs your intentionality more than the energy you invest in blaming others. The wise singles know this. And they channel their energy to the right place.”

Reactions trail Deeper Life member’s opinion
Ngozi Iwuoha-Samuel said:
"I just laugh when young people in the church believe marriage committee is their major problem in marriage. Marriage committee is the least thing anyone should worry about. After the wedding day, marriage committee has no further business with you and your marriage."
Taiwo Olubukunmi Awodiran said:
"I never regret passing through the marriage committee. If there's anyone or couple who regretted passing through the institution it should be that the foundation of such person or couple is faulty. Know this about the marriage committee."

Another member who reacted to the modifications hailed Pastor Kumuyi, stating that he had clarified an issue which disturbed youths in the church.
Kumuyi sends message to marriage commitee
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Pastor Kumuyi has warned Deeper Life’s marriage committee against rigid rules, stressing that such practices are pushing members away.
He clarified that the marriage committee is a church creation for guidance, not a biblical institution, and should not exercise undue authority.
