The New York Post reports that the aircraft belongs to Condor Airlines and that it made an emergency landing in Brindisi Airport in southern Italy at 8:15 p.m. local time.

One of the passengers said they were terrified and had to send what they thought was their last message to their loved ones.

The passenger said:

“It was an incredibly horrible experience. I already sent goodbye texts because I thought, ‘It’s over now.''

Another passenger said it all happened so quickly, and many on board the airplane realised they were no longer climbing.

The passenger said:

“Suddenly, the power went out for a few seconds, and we realised we were no longer climbing."

Also, a video seen on TikTok appear to show the airplane spitting fire occasionally from its right engine.

The video was posted by @corekvas, who said she filmed it. She captioned the clip:

"I was just chilling... then realised a plane was literally fighting fire in front of me."

Meanwhile, Condor Airline confirmed the development, according to the New York Post.

The airline said what happened was as a result of a turbine airflow disruption at an altitude of approximately 36,000 feet.

It said:

“The reason was a parameter indication outside the normal range caused by a disturbance in the air flow supply to the engine. Due to the fault message, it was precautionarily decided to divert to Brindisi. The aircraft landed around 8.15pm at Brindisi Airport, and all guests disembarked the aircraft normally.”

The airline said emergency arrangements were made for passengers and another aircraft was dispatched to carry them to Germany.

The airline noted:

“Unfortunately, there was insufficient hotel capacity in Brindisi, meaning that not all guests could be accommodated in hotels. Additional vouchers and blankets were organized at the airport, and a few shops were allowed to remain open to provide supplies. Passengers who took advantage of alternative accommodation options can submit their expenses for reimbursement. Another Condor aircraft was dispatched to carry all guests to Düsseldorf on August 17. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, but the safety of our passengers and employees is always our top priority."
