A Nigerian graduate of Babcock University has taken to social media to express his frustration and disappointment at being unable to find employment despite spending over N10 million on tuition fees.

The graduate lamented the course he studied, claiming it had not provided him with the job opportunities he had expected.

Babcock graduate laments over unemployment

In the video shared by X user @asakygrn, the graduate expressed regret over his decision to study his particular course, stating that it had not yielded the desired results.

He advised prospective students to consider courses in fields such as accounting, banking and finance, medicine, law, and technology, which he believed offered better job prospects.

In contrast, he criticised courses in sectors such as public administration, political science, international law and diplomacy, English, history, and food and nutrition, claiming that graduates of these fields often struggled to find employment.

He noted that he had never seen job openings specifically seeking graduates of these courses, and wondered what had become of his own degree certificate.

"Today make am 1 year wey I graduate from Babcock University. The course wey I spend over ten million naira go learn for that school, I no even see job wey go pay me N100,000 with that certificate. Person just go school study one very useless course. This thing I'm saying some people will not accept the fact but that's the truth. I know it's just go to school, get a degree but now, can that degree fend for you? Can you get a job with that degree? The only people wey get future for this country are people wey study maybe accounting, banking and finance, people wey dey medical field nursing, med lab, medicine and surgery, people wey study law, people wey study tech courses.

"But you see all this people wey study sector and public administration, political science, international law and diplomacy, English, history, food and nutrition, you go open shop oh. You go dey sell cake and chin chin, dey sell pomo. I don't think am think am. I never even see job opening before. I never see job opening wey be say the person say I need a graduate of political science, public administration. I never see am before. I never see job opening wey be say the person write I need a graduate of history. I never see am before. I no even know where my certificate dey, be like e dey with my mama abi e dey Anambra. I no even know."

Commenting on the story, a Nigerian teacher, Chiamaka Adindu, advised students to take their time in selecting a good course.

"I understand his point and I also advise this to young people. If you really want to use your certificate you need to study something that will be sought after. Like tech, accounting, medicine. These are courses that when done well, you can't stay unemployed unless you don't know what you did in school," she said.
