Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo gubernatorial election, has died.
The 60-year-old renowned philanthropist and businessman was said to have died at his residence at the Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, on Wednesday, September 3.

Who is Otunba Bamidele Akingboye
Akingboye was said to have served as the president of WeAfrica Group and chief executive officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems until his death.
The Tribune reported that his death was confirmed by his media aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, who disclosed that the former governorship candidate died in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to Iwakun, the former governorship hopeful was "a beacon of hope" for several people, adding that his death was "a devastating loss" for the Nigerian political and devastating communities.
SDP mourns late Ondo guber candidate
Also, SDP has expressed a deep sorrow over the demise of its former governorship candidate in the 2024 election in Ondo. The party described Akingboye as a philanthropist, a remarkable leader and business mogul, who dedicated his life to the service of the Ondo people.
His death came barely one week after Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, a former comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service, died at the age of 76. His death was announced by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state in a statement on Thursday, August 28.
Speaking about the deceased, Governor Fintiri described the former Customs boss as a man of service, duty and dignity, whose legacies will forever remain in the heart of the people of the state.
Governor Fintiri mourns former Customs boss
Governor Fintiri expressed grief and sadness about the demise of the former CG of Customs. His statement, shared on social media, reads in part:
"My prayers are with Lamido Adamawa, the Mustapha royal family and all who mourn him. May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
The deceased was an elder brother to the Lamido of Adamawa, who holds the traditional title of Sardauna of Adamawa, the person of Alhaji Muhammadu Aliyu Mustapha.
The late Mustapha joined the Nigeria Customs Service as a cadet officer, rose through the ranks and was finally appointed as the Comptroller-General in 1999.

Man arrested in Ondo for killing neighbour
Legit.ng earlier reported that security operatives have arrested one Eze Amadi for allegedly killing and concealing the body of 28-year-old Ifeanyi Otu inside a water drum.
It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred in Kajola, Odigbo local government area of Ondo state.
