Nigerian Army Arrests Soldier Planning To Supply Terrorists With Ammunition

Marte, Borno state - The Nigerian Army has arrested a soldier, identified as Lance Cpl. Saifullahi Garba (14NA/72/15972) for alleged gunrunning in Marte Local Government Area of Borno state.

Garba was arrested with 711 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

As reported by Nigerian Tribune, a credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed this on Monday, September 1, 2025, in Abuja.

The source said preliminary findings showed that the soldier had been accumulating the ammunition from clearance operations with the intent of supplying terrorists.

“He has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.”

According to the source, troops intercepted terrorists’ logistics movement and recovered 379 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition in Bama.

He further stated that the troops in Borno and Yobe recovered two AK-47 rifles, 11 rounds of ammunition, and other items.

The troops also killed one terrorist during the ambush operations.

He said the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke rescued three more kidnap victims in Nassarawa state.

The troops recovered 579 rustled cattle and two AK-47 rifles from armed herdsmen responsible for earlier attacks in Taraba.

He also said the troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested 10 armed suspects in Rivers disguised in OSPAC uniforms.

The troops seized five pump-action rifles, locally made guns, charms, mobile phones, and ₦1.7 million cash, while a separate raid in Ahoada East neutralised two cult leaders.

“These operations demonstrate both the army’s resolve to deny terrorists and criminals freedom of action and its vigilance to deal decisively with any betrayal within the ranks.”

Troops capture female gunrunner supplying terrorists.

Recall that Aisha Abubakar, a female suspect, was intercepted by security personnel in Katsina state while carrying ammunition meant for terrorists.

During a routine luggage inspection, the ammunition was discovered, leading to her initial denial of involvement.

She admitted to transporting the ammunition from Nasarawa state to a terrorist group in Yan Tumaki, Dan Musa LGA, Katsina state.

Arrested kidnapper, gunrunner confesses to Police

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a suspected gunrunner, Bako Mohammed, was arrested by police officers in Kogi state on Friday, August 13, 2021.

Mohammed was found to be in possession of a locally made Baretta Pistol and 6.7mm ammunition

Upon arrest and interrogation by officers, the suspect did not fail confess ownership of the firearms.
