Nigerians React as Peter Obi Threatens to Sue Deji Adeyanju, Gives Reason
- Peter Obi has threatened to sue political activist Deji Adeyanju over social media posts his lawyers described as defamatory
- The posts allegedly labeled Obi a fraud, thief, and religious bigot, prompting his legal team to demand deletions and public apologies
- Adeyanju dismissed the threat, saying he laughed at the letter and is ready for a court battle
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has threatened to take legal action against political activist Deji Adeyanju over a series of social media posts described as defamatory.
Obi’s legal team, led by the law firm of Alex Ejesieme and Co., issued a letter to Adeyanju accusing him of making repeated false and malicious claims on X and Facebook.

The statements, according to the letter, were calculated to damage Obi’s reputation both locally and internationally.
The letter cited several posts where Adeyanju allegedly referred to Obi as “a religious bigot, a fraud, a product of bad upbringing, scum, and a thief.” The lawyers insisted that such language amounted to gross defamation of character.
Obi demands unreserved public apology
Obi is demanding that Adeyanju immediately delete the posts and issue a full and unconditional public apology.
The apology, according to the letter, must be published across Adeyanju’s social media platforms as well as in three national newspapers. Failure to comply, the letter warned, would result in a lawsuit.

Adeyanju, who is the convener of the Concerned Nigerians group, has since reacted with apparent nonchalance. In a post on X, he said he laughed “so hard” after receiving the letter and expressed readiness to defend himself in court.
Known for his blunt political commentary, Adeyanju has recently been harshly critical of Obi and the Labour Party movement despite having defended him in the past.
His posts often questioned Obi’s economic policies and leadership style, drawing sharp reactions from Obi’s supporters.
