Who is Mustapha's latest successor in Customs?
Mustapha's latest successor in the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, had his tenure extended by President Bola Tinubu. Adeniyi's tenure was supposed to expire on August 31, 2025.
Like Adeniyi, there was an outcry and condemnation by the opposition leaders following Tinubu's move to extend the tenure of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetoku. Egbetokun, who was expected to retire from service in September 2024, is still in office because of the tenure elongation.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the House of Representatives amended the Police Act to allow the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to stay in office beyond retirement age. According to the lawmakers, the amendment followed a request from President Tinubu.

Adeniyi’s reforms, including dismantling redundant units, deploying digital systems, and enhancing training, boosted revenue, trade volume, and enforcement significantly.
Eze noted that Adeniyi’s achievements align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, positioning Customs as a key pillar of Nigeria’s economic governance.
