Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday presided over the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The session brought together governors and other key officials, with discussions centered on pressing economic issues affecting the nation, The Punch reported.

State governors attend NEC meeting
Among those in attendance were the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Also present were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), also joined the meeting.

The National Economic Council, chaired by the Vice President, has a constitutional mandate to advise the President on matters related to economic management.
Its responsibilities include the coordination of national economic planning, allocation of revenue, and ensuring the effective implementation of policies aimed at driving growth and stability across the country.
Although details of Thursday’s deliberations were not immediately disclosed, the NEC remains a central platform where the federal and state governments align on strategies to tackle challenges facing the economy.
Tinubu returns to Abuja after visits to Japan
Earlier today, Legit.ng reported that President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Abuja after a two-week official trip that took him to Japan and Brazil.
His aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 1.20am on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
On hand to welcome him were key government officials including the National Security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila; Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike; and the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Several ministers and presidential advisers were also part of the reception team.
Tinubu left Nigeria for Asia weeks ago
The president departed Abuja on August 15, making a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan. While in Yokohama, he attended the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which ran from August 20 to 22.
The event brought together African leaders, development partners, and Japanese officials to strengthen economic and political cooperation.
Ex-Buhari minister declares war on Tinubu
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the former minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, had declared that the 2027 general elections would not just be another electoral cycle but a full-blown confrontation between the Nigerian people and the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during an interview on News Central, Dalung voiced strong dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, blaming the Tinubu-led government for deepening the hardship faced by ordinary citizens.
