Police Break Silence on Report Linking IGP’s Wife to N6,000 Dues, “She Never Collected a Kobo”

The Nigeria Police Force has refuted a report alleging that senior police officers were directed to remit N6,000 each as 2025 dues to the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police’s wife.

The Lagos state police command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, described the report as “malicious, outrightly false, unfounded and a figment of imagination of an uneducated writer.”

Speaking further, Hundeyin said there was never any instruction to pay dues to the IGP’s wife or her office.

He explained that the Police Officers Wives Association is a non-governmental organisation, and that POWA funds come from voluntary dues and donations by officers.

Hundeyin clarified that:

“There was no any time in the past or present that POWA dues were ordered to be paid to the IGP’s wife who is the POWA President or her office as mischievously stated in the report.”

According to him, the association, was set up to alleviate the welfare condition of wives of police officers and their families.

The command further clarified that the association’s activities are funded through voluntary contributions and the funds go into welfare programmes, empowerment initiatives for police widows, and support for children and wards of deceased officers.

The statement read:

“The organisation as an NGO with a lot of social responsibilities that bother in catering for better welfare of police wives and their family members, empowerment for the wives, children and wards of deceased police officers who paid supreme price in the service of our fatherland.”

In another development, Legit.ng reported that IGP Kayode Egbetokun issued a directive to the Lagos airport police command to commence an investigation into the alleged assault involving the popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 and ValueJet officials.

The incident, which occurred last week at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, has sparked reactions from concerned Nigerians.

Police react to tenure extension for IGP

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reacted to the rumoured tenure extension for IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said IGP Egbetokun does not need a tenure extension as his appointment letter grants him a four-year tenure.
