Scores of APC Members Defect to ADC in Sokoto State

A wave of defections has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state as several members in Gada Local Government Area formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The new entrants were welcomed by Senator Abubakar Gada, who described the move as part of a growing coalition seeking to rescue the state and the country from what he called poor leadership.

According to him, disillusionment with the APC had pushed many to embrace the ADC as a platform for genuine political change.
“Our people are resolute and determined to liberate themselves, the state, and the country at large,” he declared at the reception.
Senator Gada raised concerns over the worsening insecurity in Sokoto East Senatorial District. He said the persistent attacks have crippled farming activities, deepened poverty, and driven up unemployment and hunger in the region.
“No society can thrive without security. This coalition is committed to restoring peace and stability for all Nigerians, regardless of their location,” he said.
The senator maintained that the defection was not just about politics but also about mobilising communities to reclaim their future. He explained that the ADC aims to provide an alternative vision where security and development will go hand in hand.
When pressed about whether the ADC can dislodge the APC in the next general election, Senator Gada responded with humility.

“It is God who gives power, not the machinery of the state,” he stated.
Political watchers believe the defections could signal deeper cracks within the APC in Sokoto, particularly as communities continue to voice frustration over insecurity and economic hardship.
For the ADC, the development appears to strengthen its base in the state and positions it as a potential force in the political contest ahead.
Ex-minister dumps APC, defects to ADC
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice under the administration of the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, had dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Party (ADC).
The former minister, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 2, announced his defection to the coalition party, adding that his decision was not out of anger or grief for his former party, but out of love for Kebbi state and Nigeria at large.
In the state, Malami announced his resignation from the ruling party, alleging that "Nigeria is bleeding." He decried the insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria, making reference to kidnapping, banditry and terrorism, adding that they have become normalised.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), had dismissed the possibility of former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso working with the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the ongoing tussle over the Kano Emirate.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Galadima faulted the federal government for what he described as a deliberate attempt to create parallel leadership within the traditional institution.
