Sunday Igboho Reacts to Rumours of Abusing Alaafin of Oyo, Video Goes Viral
- 'Yoruba Nation' activist, Sunday Adeyemo 'Igboho', has refuted claims that he disrespected the Alaafin of Oyo during his recent visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi

Ibadan, Oyo state - Sunday Adeyemo, the 'Yoruba Nation' activist popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has apologised to Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, for a statement he made during his visit to the Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife’s palace.
In a video on Saturday, August 23, seen by Legit.ng, Igboho dismissed the claims that he insulted Oba Owoade.

Sunday Igboho makes clarification
The 'Yoruba Nation' agitator insisted that his remarks at the Ooni’s palace were an eulogy to the Alaafin, and not an insult, maintaining that he holds the Alaafin in high regard. He described the Oyo ruler as an essential monarch in the southwest region.
He said:
“Alaafin is not a small king in Yoruba land to whom someone like me can talk. I am also from Oyo. That’s how they normally eulogise us in my lineage, which the Alaafin is also aware of.
“They would say, ‘Lade Lade Lade, Alaafin doesn’t have a crown, it is the crown of Aladikun that was collected for Alaafin’. That’s how they eulogise us in our Aladikun lineage."
Igboho added:
“I have nothing to gain in abusing Alaafin. I’m after peace to reign among our kings; that is our prayer. Please, forgive me, I dare not disrespect you.”

Yoruba elders appeal to Ooni, Alaafin
Meanwhile, the Yoruba Leaders of Thought, under the auspices of the Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba, have appealed to Ooni of Ife and the Alaafin of Oyo to end the 'war of attrition' and give peace a chance.

The Yoruba leaders also called on Oyo and Osun states’ governors to initiate an immediate ceasefire between the revered royal fathers and their supporters.
Guardian cited a statement by its national secretary, Bayo Aina, on behalf of the national leader, Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, where the group noted with great pain the damage that the current "distraction" had caused the Yoruba people globally.

Supremacy rights in Yorubaland
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a prominent lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, publicly dismissed claims that the Alaafin of Oyo holds exclusive authority over pan-Yoruba matters, stating that no Supreme Court judgment supports such a position.
Olajengbesi addressed this in a statement posted on his Facebook page. The lawyer emphasised the historical significance of Ile-Ife, saying it is the origin of Yoruba civilisation.
