The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained why it declared Abdullahi Bashir Haske, a businessman and son-in-law of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, wanted.
Recall that recently the EFCC declared Haske wanted over the allegation of money laundering and criminal conspiracy.

The commission dismissed claims that the action was politically motivated because of Haske’s ties to Atiku, who is expected to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
As reported by Daily Trust, the EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale described the claims as “rubbish.”
“Haske is someone we have been investigating for so many years. He is on administrative bail but he jumped the process and we declared him wanted. How can anybody be insinuating that?” Oyewale said.
EFCC issues official notice
On Thursday evening, August 21, the commission released an official statement declaring Haske wanted for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
In the notice, signed by Oyewale, the EFCC urged the public to provide credible information about Haske’s whereabouts by reporting to the nearest police station or any of its offices nationwide, The Cable reported.
“The public is hereby notified that Abdullahi Bashir Haske, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering,” the statement read.

The EFCC appealed to Nigerians to assist in locating Haske, providing details of its offices across major cities, including Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja.
It also encouraged citizens to share information through its official telephone line and email address.
According to the notice, Haske, 38, was last known to reside at No. 6, Mosley Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, and 952/953 Idejo Street, Victoria Island.
Atiku, who contested against President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 election under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has remained a presidential hopeful of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he may contest against Tinubu in the 2027 poll.
EFCC places Mele Kyari on watch list
Previously, Legit.ng reported that a former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari was placed on the watchlist of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Kyari was placed on the EFCC watchlist over the ongoing probe into the $7.2 billion refineries’ turnaround maintenance.
This is coming after the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, August 19, ordered a temporary freezing of four bank accounts linked to Kyari over allegations of fraud.
