Lagos Police Arrest Five Over Car Snatching, Buyer Nabbed in Ibadan
- Five men have been arrested in Lagos for snatching a taxi driver’s Toyota Corolla in Lekki and selling it for N500,000
- Police also apprehended the buyer, who dismantled the car and resold the parts before being traced to Ibadan
- Investigators are working to recover the pistol used in the robbery and link the syndicate to other stolen vehicles

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended five men accused of snatching a taxi driver’s car in Lekki and selling it for half a million naira. The buyer of the stolen vehicle was also traced and arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the police, the incident took place on August 1 when three passengers chartered a black Toyota Corolla along Platinum Way, Jakande.

During the trip, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a locally made pistol and forced the driver out of the car before fleeing with the vehicle.
Detectives from Ilasan Division launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspected gang members.
They were identified as Favour Sunday, 25; Ikot Moses, 28; Dickson Ighobue Harrison, 35; Joshua Adedamola, 27; and Daniel Jonathan, 26.
Stolen Corolla sold for N500,000
Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle was sold for N500,000 to a 40-year-old man, Wasiu Arinola. Police said Arinola dismantled the car and sold off the parts before he was eventually tracked down and arrested in Ibadan.
Efforts are underway to recover the weapon allegedly used in the robbery and to establish whether the syndicate had previously disposed of other stolen vehicles.
Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the detectives for their swift response and assured residents that the Command remains committed to tackling violent crime.
He called on the public to continue sharing useful information with security operatives to aid prompt intervention.

Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
“Why I rejected N26m bribe,” Police officer
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a Nigerian police officer, Sentome Obi, has been promoted and rewarded by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun after turning down a bribe worth $17,000.
His integrity has earned him recognition, a new car, a house, and several other gifts, alongside an elevation from Superintendent to Chief Superintendent of Police.
Obi shared his experience during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, where he described the recognition as unexpected. According to him, his decision to reject the bribe stemmed from values deeply rooted in his training at the Police Academy and his personal conviction that Nigeria cannot prosper without eradicating corruption.
“I never knew a day would come that I will be celebrated like this. I was only doing my duty based on what IGP Kayode Egbetokun has always been instructing and imploring us to. There are plenty reasons I rejected the huge bribe. It is from my days at the Police Academy the spirit of incorruptibility had been imbibed in me. I even wrote about it in a project I did while at the academy, I noted that for Nigeria to flourish as a nation, we will have to uproot the worsening cases of corruption, crime, and bribery in the country,” he said.

In a similar story, Legit.ng reported that, Ibrahim Sini, a superintendent of police, revealed he turned down a N150 million bribe to ensure his peace of mind and uphold his integrity.
It was reported that Sini was allegedly bribed by a Lagos-based businessman, Akintoye Akindele, the managing director and chief executive officer of Duport Midstream Company.
