The wife of Anambra state governor, Nonye Soludo, has said that she contacted the corps member assaulted by the state’s vigilance operatives, Udo-ga-chi, Jennifer Elohor, to sympathise with her over the unfortunate incident.

Soludo disclosed this to journalists in Awka, on Wednesday, August 20, saying she had invited her to the New Government House for a meeting on how to resolve the issue with a view to comforting her and ensuring the incident did not traumatise her, The Punch reported.

She said:

“I have called her and sympathised with her over the unfortunate incident and also invited her to the New Government House for a meeting to comfort her and ensure she is not traumatised.
“I was deeply disturbed by the way that lady was assaulted. There is absolutely no justification for such a cruel and humiliating act of abuse.
“I have reached out to the corps member to check on her well-being and extended an invitation to her.
“However, she informed me that she was currently not in Anambra. I asked her to contact me as soon as she returns.”

How Jennifer was assaulted by vigilantes

Legit.ng earlier reported that a disturbing video went viral on Tuesday, showing the armed vigilantes storming a corps members’ lodge, accusing occupants of being internet fraudsters despite their NYSC identification and uniforms.

In the footage, a corps member identified as Jennifer Elohor was stripped naked, beaten, and left bleeding while men carrying guns hurled degrading threats at her.

Despite her cries for help, the operatives continued to assault her, sparking outrage on social media. Many Nigerians have since demanded justice for the victim.

Police arrest vigilantes who assaulted corps member

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Anambra state police command confirmed the assault on a NYSC member, Jennifer Elobor, by members of the state security outfit.

The force confirmed that the operatives had been arrested and detained, pending preliminary investigations.

It stated that the ongoing investigation into the assault and public stripping of Elobor by vigilante members was hampered due to her failure to appear
