Abuja - On Wednesday, August 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the sudden death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, Republic of Cameroon.

"A great loss" - FG reacts to Coker's death

Coker, according to a statement by the Ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, passed on after a brief illness on Saturday, August 16.

As reported by The Nation, he described Ambassador Coker as a hardworking and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities.

"His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large.
"Prior to his appointment and assumption of duty as Consul-General of Nigeria, in Buea, he served Nigeria meritoriously in our Missions in Conakry, Guinea and Shanghai, China.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues and friends at this difficult time and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement reads in part."

In September 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recalled all Nigerian Ambassadors. But Legit.ng learnt that the diplomats are yet to return to the country owing to logistics, including Authority to incur Expenditures (AIEs) for passages.

However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government is reportedly set to appoint ambassadors after 18 months.

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that Nigeria’s Ambassador to Morocco and a prince of Zazzau Emirate in Kaduna state, Alhaji Mansur Nuhu Bamalli, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, by the media and publicity officer of the Zazzau emirate council said Bamalli died at a private hospital in Lagos. He was aged 42.

The Late Nuhu Bamalli was a biological brother to the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.

The deceased was appointed by the immediate past president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2022.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki dies
