Akume distances self from scam activities
Akume made this known in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Yomi Odunuga. He then distanced himself from the scammers, adding that they have also cloned some high-profile individuals to demand money from unsuspecting public.
The SGF then warned the public against falling victim to the scheme, adding that the modus operandi of the fraudsters was to inform their targets that they had been pencilled down for some fake government appointments and demanded that they make payment to facilitate the appointment, which is fake.
Odunuga's statement reads in part:
“The warning becomes necessary as the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been inundated with enquiries relating to the activities of these fraudulent individuals and groups”.

He further disclosed that the scammers added bank account details to the messages they were sending out to potential victims, asking them to deposit funds between N5 million to N15 million. They also asked them to send their curriculum vitae to cloned emails.
The SGF then stressed that appointment procedures for Nigerians into government agencies and parastatals are verifiable and transparent, calling on individuals not to pay anyone any money to secure the federal appointments.
Akume is the one in charge of arranging government appointees, and the president has been making several appointments, a development that might have led to the fraudsters taking the move.
In his latest appointment, Tinubu appointed Mohammed Babangida, the son of the former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, as the chairman of the Bank of Agriculture. The former president's son, though earlier allegedly rejected the appointment but denied the report and announced his acceptance of the appointment.
