- The actress also reflected on her suspension from TAMPAN and how it shaped her career comeback
Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has revealed why she temporarily stepped away from the Nigerian movie industry at the height of her career.
In a chat on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, the actress said her initial break was to explore other ventures outside acting—but the pause unexpectedly got extended. And the reason is jaw-dropping.
According to Nkechi, she met a mysterious benefactor who made her rethink the grind of film sets.

She stated:
“I took a break from acting to pursue other things. Having someone who placed me on a weekly salary was also part of the reason I stepped back. Guess what, I might not even earn N1 million from a movie. So imagine meeting someone who puts you on a N1 million weekly salary. Anytime I told him I had to go on set, he would ask how much I’d be paid and then send me more than that.”
The actress didn’t disclose the identity of the generous man, but the revelation has left many people speechless online.
The screen star also used the opportunity to reflect on how she’s been perceived in Nollywood. She admitted that early in her career, people focused more on her curves than her acting skills.
She confessed:
“I’m a good actress, but I’m being underrated. I think it’s because when I started acting, I was only showing off my endowment, so a lot of people didn’t pay attention to my talent. That’s my fault, and I’m trying to change that.”
Nkechi’s candid revelation comes months after the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) lifted her three-year suspension.
The disciplinary action was taken in 2021 after a public spat with actor Kehinde Adams (Lege Miami) over the arrest and eventual conviction of actor Baba Ijesha for sexually assaulting a minor.
