Barrister Justin Ige, a media and entertainment lawyer, has explained the legal steps available to celebrities who feel defamed in public disputes, such as the ongoing drama between actress Iyabo Ojo and singer Naira Marley.
"Primarily, a celebrity who feels defamed can institute a civil action for defamation (libel or slander) under Nigerian law," he told Legit.ng.
According to him, defamatory content in any form could be actionable:
"If harmful or false statements are made in writing or videos, and they damage the person's reputation, the affected party can sue for damages and seek an order compelling the offender to retract the statement."
