What is NYSC?
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a mandatory one-year programme established by the Nigerian government in 1973 to promote national unity and integration.
It requires all Nigerian graduates under the age of 30 to serve in states outside their origin, fostering cross-cultural understanding and civic responsibility. The scheme includes a three-week orientation camp, primary assignment in various sectors, and community development service.
Participants, known as corps members, contribute to education, health, agriculture, and public service across the country. NYSC remains a cornerstone of youth engagement, aimed at rebuilding national cohesion and preparing graduates for leadership and employment.
