This was disclosed in a statement shared on its official X.com account on Tuesday, August 26.

According to the statement, the extended deadline will enable intending candidates who started their registration process to get it completed.

The statement reads:

"The registration period for CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2025--Second Series has been extended to Friday, September 5, 2025, to enable prospective candidates who have started the process to complete it."

WAEC faced criticism over portal glitch

Legit.ng previously reported that WAEC faced fresh criticism after it temporarily shut down its result checker portal, citing "technical issues" as the reason.

WAEC, in a statement on Wednesday, August 6, via its official page on X.com, announced the temporary shutdown of its result checker website.

The announcement fueled outrage from concerned Nigerians and candidates in the just-concluded May/June 2025 examination, as the majority of the candidates failed English or Mathematics, following a Monday, August 4 statement by WAEC stating that 38.32 per cent of the 1,969,313 candidates obtained credits and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Legit.ng also reported that following the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results, candidates have expressed their grief over the grades, especially regarding the mass failure of the English Language.

Legit.ng gathered that the West African Examinations Council, in a statement on Monday, August 4, announced that only 38.32% of candidates who sat for the May/June 2025 examinations passed at the credit level in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.
