Ibori donates N100 million to Igbinedion University

Ibori made this assertion in Abuja on Thursday, July 31, at the launch of ‘Chronicles of a Legend,’ the official biography of Gabriel Igbinedion, Esama of Benin.

As reported by The Cable, the former governor announced a donation of N100 million to the institution, N50 million to endow a chair in the economics department and another N50 million for the university’s development.

“For the chair in the economics department, I want to put a very meagre sum,” he said.
“If it were not for the economic situation, I would do everything I can to promote this university.”

Speaking after his donation, Ibori noted that the gesture was inspired by Igbinedion’s enduring legacy in the education sector.

“I can make this promise because Esama has done his, and it will continue to last, and last, and last,” he said.

Ibori pledges continued support

He described the Esama as a man who has given his all for humanity.

“Esama established a nursery school, a primary school, a secondary school, and a university,” Ibori said.
“What else can a man do for humanity?”

Ibori also pledged continued support to Lucky Igbinedion, the university’s deputy chancellor.

“Mr deputy chancellor, sir, you will continue to have my support to develop the university,” the former governor assured.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Delta lawmaker Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, pledged her loyalty to Nigeria's ruling party, the APC.

She described the APC as the supreme party and vowed to bury the PDP in her constituency in Delta state.

Ibori-Suenu recently dumped the PDP and hinged her decision on its internal crisis, but the party has insisted that her seat in the House of Representatives remains vacant.

In another development, Legit.ng reported that former Delta state governor James Ibori identified five errors in the Supreme Court judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments in Nigeria.
