The Ministry emphasised that dishonest behaviour in housing estates will no longer be tolerated and that violators will be held accountable. Residents can report fraudulent activity in housing estates, provide evidence, and follow cases using the recently developed Housing Fraud Reporting Portal.

Through the site, which can be accessed at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, residents can report instances of fraud in housing estates nationwide securely and conveniently.

The Ministry will review complaints filed through the system in coordination with pertinent parties, such as the judiciary, law enforcement, and professional associations.

“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has launched a web-based Housing Fraud Reporting platform aimed at allowing citizens to report incidents of fraud in housing estates."
“The platform, with the sub-domain name https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, enables users to submit complaints and share relevant evidence and information on fraudulent practices in the real estate sector in the country,” the statement read in part.

To improve monitoring of housing projects, the Ministry also launched the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS) in addition to the fraud reporting portal.

The platform offers a centralised repository for project documentation, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities, in addition to facilitating real-time project progress monitoring and performance evaluation of contractors against key KPIs.

Both platforms were created to improve housing project oversight and encourage transparency in real estate transactions across the country.

According to Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the proposal aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which demands that the housing sector be subject to stricter regulations, that estate developers be certified, and that citizens be protected from dishonest actors.

Both platforms, according to Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry's ICT Department, demonstrate the Ministry's dedication to enhancing service delivery and safeguarding residents.

To guarantee efficient tracking and follow-up of reported incidents, he pointed out that the fraud portal was developed in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Nigerians to enjoy affordable housing

Legit.ng reported that a new digital rental platform, JHomes, is set to launch on July 1, 2025, promising to make housing more affordable for Nigerians by replacing traditional annual rent demands with a monthly payment system.

Currently, tenants in Nigeria are typically required to pay one to two years’ rent upfront, along with agency and legal fees.

However, the platform, developed by a team led by Dr. Oluwasegun Adebiyi, is designed to streamline rentals for both tenants and landlords.
