This was stated in a release made in Abuja on Monday by Tunde Moshood, the special adviser on media and communications to Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, and Silvio Costa Filho, Brazil's Minister of Transportation, signed the agreement in Brazil. Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil and Bola Tinubu of Nigeria were present during the event.
The statement claims that the BASA establishes a framework for direct air connections between Brazil and Nigeria, opening up new avenues for business, trade, tourism, and interpersonal interactions. Stronger economic integration, improved cultural ties, and increased diplomatic collaboration between the two nations are anticipated outcomes of the deal.
“This agreement is a strategic milestone that underscores President Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s global partnerships and creating an enabling environment for commerce and mobility,” the statement said.
The BASA was signed on Monday as Mr. Tinubu began a two-day state visit to Brazil. President da Silva warmly welcomed him, marking a significant step in fortifying the two largest economies in South America and Africa.
In his speech, the president of Brazil praised the deal and stated that his country is prepared to expand its collaboration with Nigeria in several important areas, including infrastructure development, aviation, and agriculture.
Premium Times reported that Tinubu is also expected to meet with the presidents of the Supreme Federal Court, the Chamber of Deputies, and the Brazilian Senate during the visit. High-level meetings between Brazilian and Nigerian delegates in various fields will underscore the shared commitment to development and prosperity between the two nations.
