Diesel Price Rises to 29.72% in July 2025, 10 States Pay More

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that Nigerians paid more for diesel in July 2025, despite a slight monthly decline compared to June.

The latest data showed that the average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) rose by 29.72% year-on-year, from N1,379.48 per litre in July 2024 to N1,789.45 per litre in July 2025.

However, on a month-on-month basis, a 1.34% decrease was recorded, as prices dropped from N1,813.81 in June 2025 to N1,789.45 in July 2025.

NBS stated:

"Looking at the variations in State prices, the top three States with the highest average price of the product in July 2025 were Benue State (N2,341.46), Adamawa State (N2,163.88), and Plateau State (N2,029.71).
On the other hand, the three States with the lowest average prices were Ondo State (N1,465.71), Zamfara State (N1,470.35), and Gombe State (N1,485.00).
"In terms of Zonal representation, the South-South Zone recorded the highest average price at N1,941.98, while the South-West Zone had the lowest at N1,619.06 compared to other Zones."

Petrol prices fall, NBS shows 10 cheapest states to buy fuel

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed that the average retail price paid by consumers for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, stood at N1,024.99 in July 2025.

This represents a 1.22% decrease when compared to the N1,037.66 average retail price reported in June 2025.

However, on a year-on-year basis, the July 2025 average price is a 33.02% increase compared to N770.54 in July 2024.

Based on the report, Jigawa, Lagos, and Sokoto states had the highest average retail prices of petrol.
